Sons & Daughters of Thunder Ministries is a Christ-centered, Spirit-filled 501(c)(3) ministry headquartered in Austin, Texas, dedicated to evangelism, missions, prison ministry, deliverance, healing, rehabilitation, vocational training, and discipleship.

The ministry exists to go into the darkest places of society and proclaim the transforming power of Jesus Christ to those who are lost, hurting, addicted, incarcerated, forgotten, and without hope.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Sons & Daughters of Thunder Ministries rescues people from the darkness and the shadow of death, restores them through Jesus Christ, disciples them into mature believers, and sends them back into the darkness as witnesses and Light Bearers.

Bringing the Light of Jesus Christ into the Darkest Places of Liberia

Across the cemeteries, swamps, garbage dumps, and drug smokehouses of Liberia, thousands of young men and women are trapped in addiction, violence, homelessness, and hopelessness. Many have been forgotten by society. Some have lost their families. Others have never known a life free from drugs, crime, and despair.

Yet even in the darkest places, the light of Jesus Christ is shining.

Every week, our outreach teams walk into places that most people avoid. We meet people where they are—living among tombs, sleeping in abandoned buildings, hiding in drug camps, and struggling simply to survive. We bring them a message that has the power to change everything:

Jesus Christ still saves. Jesus Christ still heals. Jesus Christ still delivers.

What seems impossible to man is possible with God.

While our ministry serves locally in Texas, our largest humanitarian and evangelistic outreach is taking place in the nation of Liberia, West Africa.

A Ministry of Sons & Daughters of Thunder Ministries

Evangelist Michael Bowen, together with Liberian pastor and ministry partner Pastor Sam Nunoo, founded Liberation Center Liberia, a registered Liberian nonprofit organization dedicated to confronting one of Africa’s most devastating drug epidemics.

The ministry exists to rescue people from addiction, restore broken lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and equip them to become faithful disciples, productive citizens, and leaders within their communities.

Every person who enters our program is treated with dignity, compassion, and unconditional love because every human being is created in the image of God.

A Nation in Crisis

Liberia continues to suffer the long-lasting effects of two brutal civil wars. During those conflicts, drugs were deliberately introduced to child soldiers, leaving behind a generation deeply wounded by addiction, violence, trauma, and poverty.

Today, many of these former child soldiers, along with thousands of disadvantaged young people, are known as Zogos.

Many live in cemeteries.

Many sleep in abandoned buildings and garbage dumps.

Many survive through theft, prostitution, gang activity, and drug trafficking.

Most have lost hope that life can ever be different.

The social and economic challenges are overwhelming.

Nearly eighty percent of Liberia’s population consists of young people, while widespread unemployment and limited educational opportunities leave countless young adults without a path toward a better future. These conditions continue to fuel addiction, crime, and generational poverty.

But we believe that no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace.

From the Tombs to New Life

Our outreach teams search throughout Liberia for those who have been forgotten.

We enter graveyards.

We walk through swamps.

We visit drug smokehouses.

We search garbage dumps and abandoned communities.

We go where addiction lives because that is where Jesus would go.

The men who agree to leave the streets enter our Drug Rehabilitation and Discipleship Program, where they begin an intensive journey of healing and restoration.

Through prayer, biblical counseling, deliverance ministry, discipleship, vocational training, life-skills education, accountability, and the love of a Christ-centered community, lives are being transformed every day.

The Holy Spirit is setting captives free.

Addictions are being broken.

Families are being reunited.

Hope is returning.

Men once feared by their communities are becoming respected fathers, husbands, workers, evangelists, and disciples of Jesus Christ.

Lives Are Being Transformed

Since opening its doors, Liberation Center Liberia has welcomed more than 250 men into its rehabilitation and discipleship program.

By the grace of God, 70–80% of participants remain drug-free after completing 9–12 months of rehabilitation and discipleship—an extraordinary testimony in a nation facing an overwhelming addiction crisis.

The transformation reaches far beyond sobriety.

Former drug addicts become worship leaders.

Former criminals become productive citizens.

Broken relationships are restored.

Entire families experience healing.

Communities witness the power of the Gospel as men who once lived among tombs return home with purpose, dignity, and hope.

This is more than rehabilitation.

It is redemption.

A Place for Women to Heal

Women suffering from addiction often endure unimaginable trauma.

Many have experienced abuse, exploitation, abandonment, and sexual violence. Addiction frequently forces them into prostitution simply to survive, leaving them trapped in cycles of shame, fear, and hopelessness.

Yet Liberia has very few rehabilitation facilities specifically designed to care for women.

To meet this urgent need, Liberation Center Liberia is launching an initiative to build and operate a Women–Only Drug Rehabilitation and Discipleship Home near our ministry headquarters in Caldwell.

This future center will provide a safe refuge where women can encounter the healing love of Jesus Christ while receiving counseling, vocational training, medical care, biblical discipleship, and practical support for rebuilding their lives.

The Thunder House Boyz

One of the ministry’s greatest testimonies is the worship group known as the Thunder House Boyz.

Only months before recording their first song, these young men were living inside Liberia’s cemeteries, smoking drugs among the tombs.

Today they are disciples of Jesus Christ, worship leaders, and living testimonies of God’s redeeming grace.

Their anthem, “Jesus Loves Zogos,” boldly proclaims that no one is beyond the reach of God’s love.

Meet You at the Graveyard

One of the most powerful expressions of our ministry is found in the song “Meet You at the Graveyard.” This music video tells the story of a Savior who is not afraid to walk into the darkest places to rescue those the world has forgotten. Inspired by the ministry taking place in Liberia, it reflects our mission to bring the light of Jesus Christ into cemeteries, ghettos, drug camps, and every place where people are living in bondage and hopelessness.
