ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH YOUR LIFE IN THIS WORLD? DO YOU HAVE ENOUGH? WHAT IS YOUR LACK? WHAT THING IN YOUR LIFE ARE YOU MISSING THAT WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY?
Isaiah 55:1-3
“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live
Many of you reading this are unhappy in your life right now. You thought that all the things that your hard earned money would buy would make you happy and bring you joy and peace. You have discovered that all the things you have acquired, the so-called “good things” in life only brought you moments of happiness, joy and comfort. You would get real excited for the new car or truck, the big check, the new outfit, the new pair of shoes, the new watch, the new iPhone and on and on and on… Sure you were happy once you got them but it did not last long. That feeling always goes away and then you are left with your old tired, restless, unhappy self. Don’t fall for that lie ever again!
We all thirst! But there is only one water that satisfies and that is Jesus. You can’t buy this water, you can’t earn this water and you don’t have to beg for this water. It is freely given to you at the well of your dissatisfaction. The well of your restlessness. The well of your discontent.
Wake up friends of mine! The things of this world will never satisfy the longing in your soul. You have gone through this life like a man swimming through a muddy river trying to find a quenching for his soul. You have been swimming in the wrong water, you have been drinking from the wrong well. Come to Jesus and you will find a quenching for your thirsty soul. Come to the well of your surrender, repentance and salvation. Drink this water and eat that which is good and of God.
John 4:7-15
A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”
John 6:32-40
Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.” And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
For many years in my life I fed on the so-called “good things” of this world. I chased money, fortune, fame and all the things the world promised me that if I got them, then I would be happy. I ate from the abundance of this world to my fill and stuffed myself full of its trappings until I finally vomited up my addiction. Addiction to alcohol and drugs is what the “so-called” good things of the world gave me in return and I will never ever be fooled again! The Devil is a liar! The world and its trappings will never satisfy.
I have already lived a full life and have a well rounded perspective of its different paths and the only path that I have found that truly satisfies and NEVER leads to destruction is the path of Jesus. My problem all along was that I was drinking from the wrong well until I surrendered my life to Jesus!
Strip me butt-naked, take all my belongings and put me all alone in the desert with no water or food and I will be satisfied. This world will never again have its hold on me because I have found the quenching for my soul in my relationship with Jesus and my new identity as His disciple.
My deepest hope in writing this today is that you reading it will also find your satisfaction in Jesus. Give Him a try for once and come up out of the trappings of this world that will always disappoint. Billy Graham said, ” I have never known a man who received Christ and ever regretted it”.
I love Jesus and I know He loves me and that is all I will ever need. He loves you too! Come to the well and have a drink. Let Jesus be your fountain of Living Water. You will not be disappointed.
