1 Peter 5:6-11
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
I think the most important part of our character is humility! I believe it is in humility that we come to terms with our shortcomings which invites the process of our character overhaul done by the Holy Spirit once we realize we are flawed, inadequately equipped and in need of serious help! I believe that in our humility we are able to see more clearly our fallen broken condition. Pride is puffed up and is a deceptive mask. I believe we use pride to shield ourselves and our fragile egos to the fact that we are sinners, lost, broken and in need of saving and repairing. Oh what a wretched man I truly am! Oh how my members continually cause me to sin! Oh how I have followed other Gods! Oh how I have let this world shape me into its image! Oh what a foolish pursuit! Oh how empty I truly am without My God! Oh what trouble I have gotten myself into. Oh what a mess I have made out of my life. Oh how I suffer from all the loneliness, hurt, confusion and chaos brought upon by my actions seeking the things of this world and not you my God. Therefore I humble myself before You and ask for forgiveness and ask You to save me and change me! Deliver me from my distress oh Lord and teach me your ways! Change me into the image of your son. I am nothing without you and can do nothing apart from you my Lord! Jesus Christ is my King and my Lord and my God! I humble myself before you and kneel at your feet Lord and surrender my life to you!
